Bail help around the clock

How much do you pay on a $100,000 bond?

On a $100,000 bond, you pay a premium of $10,000, which is 10% of the bail and the standard filed rate. A client who meets the eligibility rules may qualify for a reduced filed rate, often 8%. The bond covers the $100,000 itself, so you do not have to raise that sum. A judge, the Los Angeles County felony schedule or a worksheet add-on sets that figure, and a hearing can change it.

You pay a premium of $10,000 on a $100,000 bond, which is 10% of the bail at the standard filed rate. Eligible clients may see a reduced filed rate, often 8%. The county schedule, worksheet add-ons or a judge sets the $100,000, and a hearing can change it.

The $10,000 premium on $100,000 bail

The premium on a $100,000 bond is $10,000, which works out to 10% of the bail. That is the standard filed rate. Your eligibility decides whether a reduced filed rate, often 8%, applies instead.

However the rate works out, the premium goes to the agent as the price of a $100,000 bond. None of it counts toward the $100,000. Collateral, where an agent asks for it, is a separate item from the premium. Our bail bond cost guide shows how a bond premium works at any amount.

Charges priced at $100,000

The 2026 Los Angeles Superior Court felony bail schedule lists many rows priced at $100,000. Dissuading a witness under PC 136.1 fills two of them on page 12, including the felony version in subdivision (c). A firearm assault on an officer or firefighter (PC 245(d)(1)) sits on page 14. Corporal injury under PC 273.5 also reaches that figure on page 15 when the person has a qualifying earlier conviction within seven years, which the schedule cites as PC 273.5(f).

The court's worksheet adds enhancements to a row's price. First-degree robbery under PC 211 is a $100,000 row on page 13, and PC 667.9 lists robbery. Item 8a of the worksheet adds $25,000 when the victim is older, disabled or very young as that statute describes. The total reaches $125,000 before any other add-on. Our bail schedule guide explains how to read the rows.

Hearings that can move the number

For the charges that PC 1270.1 lists, an open-court hearing as a rule comes first whenever bail would land above or below the schedule figure, or whenever the person would leave on own-recognizance release, meaning without money bail. The list reaches past serious felonies. It also covers felony witness dissuasion under PC 136.1(c), stalking (PC 646.9), domestic battery under PC 243(e)(1), and a protective-order violation (PC 273.6) that involved threats to kill or harm, violence, or a visit to the protected person's home or workplace. PC 825 sets the time limit for holding that hearing.

The court's worksheet form has a line where law enforcement says whether it opposes own-recognizance release. Another line on the same form tells whoever completes it to attach a request and supporting documentation when a deviation from the schedule is sought. A defense attorney can advise whether and how to ask the court to change bail.

What Humphrey changed about setting bail

In re Humphrey (2021) 11 Cal.5th 135 began with bail set at $600,000, then cut to $350,000 after a formal bail hearing. The trial court did not ask whether the defendant could pay either figure. California's Supreme Court held that he had the right to a new hearing.

Other release conditions, the Court said, can in many cases protect public and victim safety as well as assure court appearances. Examples include electronic monitoring, regular check-ins with a pretrial case manager, community housing or shelter, and drug and alcohol treatment. To order detention, a judge must first find by clear and convincing evidence, a higher bar than a simple majority of the proof, that no less restrictive condition will do. The Los Angeles schedule also says the court must consider Humphrey's principles. Our jail versus bail FAQ covers the trade-offs of waiting in custody.

If a judge lowers bail before a $100,000 bond posts, the premium drops with it. At 10%, every $10,000 cut takes $1,000 off.
